ALBRIGHTON & DISTRICT CIVIC SOCIETY (ADCS)

(Albrighton, Boningale, Donington-with-Boscobel and Tong)

Public Meeting on 19th July to highlight Albrighton Station.
It was great to see the meeting being supported by Albrighton Parish Council, Donington-with-Boscobel Parish Council, Albrighton Historical Society and the Civic Society. When organisations work together they can often achieve more than the sum of the parts. We thank everyone who attended for their interest and support - some 90 people attended
We apologise for the very poor microphone and speaker system which meant that many people could not hear the speakers very well. We have since helped the Red House obtain a better microphone and we understand that they are also about to seek some expert advice on their equipment.
There were some 25 or so people who put up their hands to show their interest in having more information about becoming a volunteer for the Adopt-a-Station scheme. Mike Pitchford (01902 597701), Civic Society Treasurer, advises that a group is forming including Alison Taylor (Platform Ale House T:07387 573922) so please contact them. The Civic Society will support the group in any way we can & we trust that the two Parish Councils will also confirm support.

Crown Car Park – charge for parking?!?
We understand that Shropshire Council has renewed its lease on the car park which is used by customers of the pub and also shoppers and visitors to local businesses. Shropshire Council has just issued proposals for charging at their car parks across the county and it includes proposals to charge for car parking in the Crown Car Park. It has just started a public consultation and a questionnaire is available from the Library which has to be returned by Tuesday 17th October.
The Committee of the Civic Society has discussed the matter and we are strongly against charging for parking in the Crown Car Park as this will affect local businesses and the life of the village. May we suggest that as many people as possible get a copy of the questionnaire from the Library and if you, like us, are against their proposal please make that clear and send it to Shropshire Council. If residents don’t make their feelings known, it will happen by default – PLEASE ACT NOW AND MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD.
